The Foundation collects funds to finance the activities, patient services, projects, and research of the Douglas Institute. The Douglas Institute is the second largest mental health research center in Canada and since its beginning in 1881, it has relied on the community for its development. Unlike most francophone hospitals, it was not tied to the Church and thus had to count on the generosity of the public and its volunteers.

DSRI uses a unique approach to teaching children and teenagers who have Down syndrome. In our model, speech pathologists, teachers and therapists in social skills collaborate to deliver comprehensive academic programming. Through one-on-one and small group teaching, our students are challenged and have fun. Central to the Down Syndrome Research Institute’s work is the research that demonstrates that the quality of life for individuals with DS correlates closely with their ability to communicate. The improvement of students' communication, and the integration of speech pathology principles in all instructional situations are top priorities. We endeavour to have our greatest impact, not only in enhancing individual student’s achievements, but in demonstrating that certain educational approaches and strategies can and should be employed by mainstream education providers.

The Dr Hadwen Trust for Humane Research (DHT) is the UK’s leading medical research charity that funds and promotes the development of techniques and procedures to replace the use of animals in biomedical research and testing. To further this aim, the DHT supports and assists scientists to implement existing techniques and develop new ones which are more human-relevant and replace animal experiments. We award grants to scientists in universities, hospitals and research organisations following a rigorous peer-reviewed selection procedure. The Danish Refugee Council is a private, humanitarian organisation founded in 1956 that works in more than 30 countries throughout the world. Dreamflight is a registered UK charity that changes young lives through taking seriously ill and disabled children, without their parents, on the holiday of a lifetime to Orlando, Florida. Once a year, 192 deserving children from all over the UK, accompanied by a team of medical carers, board a chartered Boeing 747 and head to Florida to spend 10 magical days of fun and excitement. Many children could not undertake such a trip without the support of the army of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and non-medical volunteers who care for the children 24 hours a day. Dreamflight is not just a holiday. The children leave their families behind giving them an opportunity to discover independence, confidence, and a whole new outlook on life. Often for the first time, these children realise that they are not alone, and they are not the odd one out. They see children around them who have also suffered, they gain perspective, and experience things they never thought possible.

Funds not required for its primary purpose can be gifted by Dreams Take Flight to other registered charities that benefit physically, mentally or socially challenged children and are within the policies adopted by Dreams Take Flight Canada.
