To investigate, implement and promote educational approaches that help individuals with Down syndrome experience success and independence at school, with friends and in the world of work.

DSRI uses a unique approach to teaching children and teenagers who have Down syndrome. In our model, speech pathologists, teachers and therapists in social skills collaborate to deliver comprehensive academic programming. Through one-on-one and small group teaching, our students are challenged and have fun. Central to the Down Syndrome Research Institute’s work is the research that demonstrates that the quality of life for individuals with DS correlates closely with their ability to communicate. The improvement of students' communication, and the integration of speech pathology principles in all instructional situations are top priorities. We endeavour to have our greatest impact, not only in enhancing individual student’s achievements, but in demonstrating that certain educational approaches and strategies can and should be employed by mainstream education providers.
