Gift of Adoption Fund
Based in USA
United States
Community/Family

Sadly, 140 million children in this world are orphaned – living without parents in overburdened orphanages or worse on the streets. Even for those you might count as lucky enough to be in some type of foster care, this is usually just temporary. Adoption is fundamentally about giving a child the dignity and love they deserve. Through local chapters, dedicated Giving Circles and individual donations, The Gift of Adoption Fund is making an impact. Each year we hear from over 600 hopeful parents who are qualified to adopt but need the last bit of financial resources required to complete an adoption. Since its inception, The Gift of Adoption Fund has granted over $1,900,000 to help change the lives of more than 650 children in need of families.

But locally, our efforts are far-reaching – we run a total of 22 additional projects in South Africa. All our projects are needs-driven; they need to be sustainable and need to make a meaningful difference to the quality of people’s lives.

Gill Foundation
Based in USA
United States
Human Rights

The Gill Foundation arose out of a battle for equality. A 1992 Colorado ballot initiative denying lesbians and gay men equal protection in the state provoked outrage among fair-minded citizens across Colorado and the nation. One such citizen was Tim Gill, a Coloradan since boyhood, the founder of Denver-based software company Quark, Inc., and a gay man. Tim was moved to action by the attack on his and other Coloradans’ civil rights. Over the course of our history, we have invested more than $162 million, including $96 million in grants, to support programs and nonprofit organizations across America that share our commitment to equal rights for all Americans. An informed and enlightened populace is one that is more than likely to support equality. Consequently, much of our work also involves educational programs aimed at winning over hearts and minds. We make investments in a wide variety of organizations and efforts that represent different aspects of our movement. These efforts might range from litigation to overturn a ban on second parent adoption to partnering with a state equality organization to educate citizens about how gay and lesbians want to join and strengthen the institution of marriage. Today, the Gill Foundation is one of the nation’s largest funders of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender civil rights work.
