To extend a "caring" hand to street, runaway and abandoned children, to provide opportunities for their humane growth, to empower them to assert and exercise their right to childhood, and to empower marginalised and underprivileged women to be economically self reliant.

Nesakkaram-SEEDS (Street Elfins Education and Development Society) is a child-care organization in Chennai. We are working for and with the street children for over eighteen years. We provide them food and shelter, opportunities to learn and grow, opportunities to dream and the means to achieve them. Nesakkaram recognizes the fact that much of the problems which children face are dependent on their family and parents. Therefore we began to motivate the mothers and making them realise the need for their children's education and development. Thus we formed Women's Groups. Encouraged by the positive effects of reaching out to people in distress, Nesakkaram began lending a helping hand to people who were affected by natural or manmade disasters like fire,flood and earthquake. One of such major activities was in 2004 when we adopted six coastal villages traumatized by tsunami.
