To alleviate sub-standard housing conditions in Appalachia by utilizing volunteers to repair and renovate housing for the individuals affected by these conditions.

ASP partners with volunteers (ages 14 through retirement) from across the country to effect emergency home repair projects in rural areas of Appalachian Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. Services extended include: repairing roofs, building room additions, providing wheelchair ramps, installing or repairing plumbing, updating unsafe wiring, securing foundations, digging drainage ditches, constructing porches and steps, installing insulation and siding, and weatherizing homes. ASP reports year-round efforts in three Appalachian communities and during summer months, volunteers also work in about 25 locations.
