To achieve equality by changing historic patterns of systemic discrimination against women through BC-based equality rights litigation, law reform and public legal education.

Our concept of equality does not mean "equality as sameness", but rather equality as the removal and disappearance of discrimination and disadvantage which is consistent with Charter equality rights. The West Coast Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF)was formed when the equality guarantees of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms came into force. We protect and advance the equality rights of BC women by participating in BC cases in the courts that effect their social, legal and economic circumstances, and engage with lawmakers so as to ensure that governmental laws and policies improve the conditions of women in BC.
