The Raising Hope Foundation

Based in GBR United Kingdom
Children/Education

The Raising Hope Foundation was formed in January 2009 by Kinza Mason, after visits to Ghana in 2008. We're a small UK Charity working with orphaned and vulnerable children in Ghana. We want to make a difference in a way that really matters. Currently we are working with a Ghanaian Charity, the Living Faith Foundation, to build a home for over 60 orphaned children, and hopefully transform the lives of many children in the small town of Santrokofi. In Ghana there are a large number of orphaned and needy children who are currently living in far from ideal circumstances. The 'extended family' system, that is placing children with aunts, grandparents etc, is simply not working as families are struggling just to support their own children. Our home in Santrokofi will be for those who are orphaned and have nowhere else to go. It will also be a place of support for single parents, so that their children can remain with them where possible.

The Red Squirrel Survival Trust

Based in GBR United Kingdom
Animals/Wildlife

RSST is committed to partnering with dedicated and knowledgeable local groups around the country. We do not try to reinvent the wheel; instead we listen to what local groups tell us and work together to protect red squirrels in the UK. We favour the use of volunteers wherever possible to support our aims. As well as ensuring strong community involvement in the cause, this also keeps administration and overheads costs to a minimum. We have seen in areas such as northern England that with the right approach, red squirrels will reoccupy their former territory. The vital ingredients that allow this to happen are dedicated leadership, strong community support, and a realistic policy of grey squirrel control.

The RNRM Childrens Fund

Based in GBR United Kingdom
Children/Education

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Children’s Fund has supported children whose parents work, or have worked, for the Naval Service for over a hundred years. At the outset, the Children’s Fund primarily supported the children of ex-servicemen, although over the years, the evolution of society and war has turned the tide and, at present, around 80% of its beneficiaries’ parents are still serving. This is, however, not the only aspect of The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Children’s Fund to change and develop since it was established. The areas the Children’s Fund provides support for have expanded and now include childcare, special needs education, days out and in-home support in times of crisis. An area of particular growth has been the Charity’s focus on assisting children within its remit who have special needs. This work now accounts for nearly half of its awards to beneficiaries. In the last year alone, The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Children’s Fund has supported over 1,500 children, but with over 40,000 servicemen currently in the Naval Service, it is keen to ensure that naval families know where to find us.
