Ruhama

Based in IRL Ireland
Women

Ruhama is a Dublin-based NGO which works on a national level with women affected by prostitution. Our service is comprehensive to meet the broad range of experiences of women affected by prostitution. We provide a service to women who are currently involved in on-street and off-street prostitution, women who are exiting prostitution, women who are victims of sex trafficking and women who have a history of prostitution. Ruhama (Hebrew for renewed life) regards prostitution as violence against women and a violation of women's human rights. We see prostitution and the social and cultural attitudes which sustain it as being deeply rooted in gender inequality and social marginalisation.

South African Riding for the Disabled Association S.A.R.D.A. was established in Cape Town in 1973 by Belinda Sampson and Joy Finlay. Today there are branches in Durban, Port Elizabeth and on the Highveld. The sensory input that the rider receives from the rhythmic movement of the horse at the walk cannot be reproduced in any other way. The movement of the horses gait stimulates the response from the rider's muscles that have often lain dormant and inactive for many hours each day. Some of these muscles are hardly ever used to there full potential. To ride a horse successfully and safely requires discipline of body and mind, the development of tact, sympathy, and patience. It is this challenge, which provides a never-ending goal for every rider disabled or able bodied.
