Animals/Wildlife
Glenfern Sanctuary offers a rare opportunity to experience native wildlife on Great Barrier Island. The Sanctuary is part of 230ha Kotuku Peninsula in the north of Great Barrier Island between Port FitzRoy and Port Abercrombie and is the result of 20 years hard work with over 10,000 native trees planted, an extensive track network and a swing bridge which enables visitors to climb into the crown of a 600 year old kauri tree. The construction of a predator proof fence across the peninsula in 2008 and a pest eradication programme in 2009 eliminated the pests. However ongoing rodent control is required to maintain this status from incursions round the fence ends and from boats and adjacent Great Barrier Island. The Sanctuary is providing a safe habitat for many endangered native species including the black petrel and brown teal which are breeding here, also kaka and chevron skink and the recently introduced North Island robin.

Global Angels is partnering with many excellent projects in developing countries through our "Feed A Child For A Year" program. All of the work of the charity promotes self-sufficiency. Training in skills such as bee keeping, farming, sewing and small business management help the children learn and develop capabilities that will allow them to support themselves and their community in the future. Be an Angel and help us to protect and empower these children. Global Angels is currently also raising funds for educational materials, microfinance for heads of families and malaria projects. Providing clean water, food and education will empower a new generation of children. We have a bold belief that we can turn things around. While Governments and their policies make some impact, it is only when the public at large becomes involved, that social justice and change can spread across a nation and eventually the world.

Global Greengrants Fund is part of a community of activists working towards social justice and environmental sustainability. We are a network of passionate change-makers, our belief is that everyone deserves the right to a healthy environment. The reality is that millions of people are denied this right. Toxic contamination; destruction of natural resources; disappearance of water, food, and work; displacement from traditional lands; these are the sad truths for too many communities. Environmental degradation is common, and so are the social injustices that accompany it. Our strategy is to support local leaders—primarily outside the United States and Western Europe—in fighting these injustices. Through activist-led grantmaking, we find these leaders and provide resources that enable grassroots action on the front lines of social change.
