Children/Education
We see potential in the disadvantaged children of South Africa. These children, like any other child, have dreams, ambition and talent. They try hard not to let their circumstances get the best of them, but it is not easy. The real needs of these children are education, mentoring, guidance and support. Without funds none of these are possible - funding to help set up a firm foundation to further their education, issue them with home basics and to help them find a work and place to live.

It is now an institution in tune with the needs of our world today. The museum has grown into an attractive, dynamic space, a place where visitors may feel and live out a scenario in which history is taken by emotions and empathy to clear the path towards reconciliation, a place where we may think that we can all work together to shape our own peace.

We educate people about how to prevent human-bear conflicts in and around their homes, neighbourhoods and communities. We help policymakers find cost-effective solutions to the challenges of creating Bear Smart communities, including the implementation of effective conflict management policies and regulations and bear-proof waste management systems, and promote innovative and practical non-lethal bear management practices. Although our work informs and influences bear management practices and policies across North America, we focus much of our time and energy on the resort community of Whistler, BC, where we are based. The improvements achieved over the years as part of our BearSmart Whistler Program illustrate what can be accomplished by implementing Bear Smart policies and practices.
