Daniel Elber, a successful businessman on sabbatical on Bali in 2003, wanted to hear it from the beggar women themselves. They are from the Muntigunung region in the north of Bali. There is little water there—not enough for drinking, not enough for crops or to keep a cow. The men have no work. As a consequence, hundreds of women with their children regularly go the tourist areas to beg. The children carry water to the villages in marches lasting hours. A study commissioned by Daniel Elber confirmed that a functioning rainwater collection system is the only solution for Muntigunung. "I became fired up," he said. He set himself a goal: "I want that all these women’s children can attend school as soon as possible." Future for Children was born. We are enabling people to take their development into their own hands. Help for self-help!
